Weapon Tiers

Weapon ranks for CHAIN Combat Practice follow the Survival kit you will actually swing. Stats below mix community measurements from the CHAIN wiki and what the trainer lets you repeat without wasting a night. Pair this table with QTE difficulty — a high-damage special you always fail is not A-tier on your account.

Ranked kit

S — Machete+

Upgraded Machete is the closest thing to a complete melee kit: M1 damage around 1, block that can feed combat stamina, a perfect-clash QTE (single random key) and an imperfect/spam-F variant if you block late. It does not apply the long No Clash lock that Tomahawk and X-Saw specials slap on you. You need the normal Machete first and, in current Survival, the Completionist badge (or a shop window that still sells it for points). In the trainer, treat Machete+ as the graduation exam after you can parry on the base blade. Full notes: Machete.

A — X-Saw

Shop price 1000 points, or 400 with the gamepass. Three inventory slots, 100w gas, special at 55w+, execution save at 50w (you keep the saw, you lose the fuel). M1 anger gain is small; the special is the burst (community notes cite ~27 on a won clash). Two QTE steps: mash/timing on the first, random key on the second. Spamming the first step makes the second harder. FPS below 60 slows the bar — that is not a myth. Fail either step and you eat a huge punish. Enraged stuffs the lunge. Deep dive: X-Saw and X-Saw QTE.

A — Tomahawk

Special lets you move while charging, which X-Saw does not. QTE is two stages (stab, then accelerating blows). Ping over ~200 ms makes the special almost unwinnable. Heavy attack eats 45% combat stamina on a red bar, 25% at full. No block QTE like Machete; its block is a spacing tool that returns stamina if you are not inside CHAIN’s teeth. Pair with X-Saw so you have a plan when gas hits zero. Page: Tomahawk.

B — Machete

The teaching weapon. Weak M1 (~0.5), F-block, clash QTE, no gamepass, craftable from blueprint + scrap. Losing the clash gets you stabbed and headbutted; a late dodge (Q) after the animation can still save the follow-up. You should live here in the trainer for the first week. Everything about combat stamina is easier to see on this blade because you are not also tracking gas or a lunge cooldown.

B — Broken Winchester 1897

July 2026 Survival drop. Metric bar, bayonet stab parry, cinematic special. Shop still says broken — that is the name. Ceiling is high (240-plus damage nights exist). Fail cost, ping, and red-eye invuln keep it out of A until you can fill the metric without eating three hits. Full sheet: Winchester. Buttons: Winchester QTE. If the dummy has no prompt, export on a private server. Track changes on patch notes.

C — Combat Knife

Nickname “life insurance.” Tiny offensive numbers (community M1 notes sit near 0.1). When you would die, it plays a long deflect/escape and stuns CHAIN. Does not save you if you are already downed. Cannot be crafted if you own X-Saw, because both items cover execution prevention. Do not main it in the trainer except to learn the save animation’s length so you do not waste the stun.

Loadout rules that beat raw ranks

  • One saver. Knife or X-Saw gas, not both.
  • One stamina engine. Machete+ block or Tomahawk block, not two specials that both apply No Clash.
  • One burst. X-Saw special or Tomahawk special for a downed teammate, not both on cooldown when Enraged starts.
  • Inventory. X-Saw eats three slots. If you also carry vest, medkit, and radio, you are already full.

Points versus practice

Survival prices punish tourists: Machete blueprint around 150 plus scrap, Machete+ in the hundreds, X-Saw at 1000. The trainer is free. Buy the weapon you can already clash in CHAIN Combat Practice. That single rule saves more points than any codes page.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I buy X-Saw or Machete+ first?

Machete+ if you already parry. X-Saw if you have the gamepass or you specifically need the execution save and burst.

Why are guns missing?

CHAIN Combat Practice is a melee QTE gym. Guns belong in Survival loot tables, not this ranking.

Does Tomahawk beat X-Saw for beginners?

Often yes. You can move during the special and the QTE is kinder. See Tomahawk.

Is the knife worth crafting?

Yes as a save, no as a trainer main. Craft it if you do not own X-Saw.
