CHAIN Combat Practice X-Saw Weapon Sheet

Gas, slots, special clash, and why the saw is a save tool as much as a damage tool.

X-Saw

X-Saw is the reason most people launch CHAIN Combat Practice. In Survival it is a prototype chainsaw from the Merchant: 1000 points, or 400 with the gamepass, three inventory slots, 100w of gas. In the trainer it is the dummy’s favorite cutscene. This sheet is the numbers and the etiquette. The button-by-button clash is X-Saw QTE.

Economy

  • Hold drain: about 1w per 6 seconds while equipped.
  • Special cost: over 55w. You get one honest special per fill if you are sloppy with holstering.
  • Save threshold: 50w while equipped. Lethal damage starts a ~9 second counter-execution. You keep the saw. Gas dumps to zero. CHAIN stuns longer than a normal flinch.
  • Overlap: you cannot also craft Combat Knife for a second save.
  • M1: does not spend gas; spends combat stamina. Community anger/burst notes sit near 1.3 anger and 5.5 burst per M1; special is the spike (~27 anger on some logs).

Holster the saw when you are looting. Walking around at 100w looks cool and wastes the save.

Combat kit

M1 and parry feel like Machete with more weight. There is no Machete-style block QTE. Block instead negates a swing, spends stamina, and plays a unique clash sound. A just-in-time block adds stun. Special: lock, charge (invuln vs normal swings, not AoE, not Bloodmoon), lunge, two QTEs. Fail either QTE = fail the special. Enraged = stuffed lunge, ~70 damage, ragdoll.

A known bug: connecting the lunge can still chip your health. Do not start the special at 1 HP and call it “RNG.”

Why the trainer matters

You will not get 20 clean specials in one public night. You will get one, maybe two, and a teammate will walk through the camera. The simulator is where you learn:

  • No spam on step one.
  • Eyes on the random-key HUD for step two.
  • 60 FPS cap so the bar matches the clips.
  • The length of the save animation so you do not waste the stun sprinting in a circle.

Pair with Tomahawk or Machete so you have a stamina engine when gas is gone. Pair with combat stamina so you can still M1 after a failed special.

Gym mistakes that look like balance issues

Starting the special at full sprint panic, missing the lunge, and calling the saw “nerfed.” Holstering at 49w and wondering why the save did not play. Spamming step one until step two is a slot machine, then blaming QTE difficulty. Equipping the saw while the dummy is already in swing range so the draw animation eats the hit. All of these are operator errors. The trainer is where you are allowed to look silly. Survival is not.

If you want a second opinion on the animation language — win clash, lose clash, save grind — the all-animations showcase on this page is the visual dictionary. Then come back and press the keys yourself.

When not to pull it

  • CHAIN is already touching you (draw animation).
  • Enraged or Bloodmoon.
  • You are below 55w and wanted a special, or below 50w and wanted a save — pick one goal per fill.
  • A teammate is already in a QTE. Your lunge will grief them.

Weapon tiers ranks the saw A, not S, because fail cost and FPS drama are real. QTE difficulty ranks the clash Hard. How to beat CHAIN tells you to keep the gas for the save if the night is ugly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I get X-Saw?

Merchant for 1000 points, or 400 with the gamepass. Practice the clash in the trainer before you buy.

Does the save consume the weapon?

No. You keep X-Saw. You lose remaining gas.

Can I use X-Saw and Combat Knife together?

No. Owning the saw blocks knife craft because both are execution saves.

Why did Enraged instantly punish my special?

The lunge is stuffed on Enraged. Do not throw it — see how to beat CHAIN.
